A Malaysian Festival That I Celebrate

Malaysia is a country with multiple races and with multiple races in this country, comes different celebrations and festivals. Examples for the festivals that we celebrate are Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and so much more. Different races celebrate different festivals and the festival that I celebrate is Chinese New Year.

Since I am Chinese, I celebrate Chinese New Year every year. It is our culture and we always follow it. When Chinese New Year comes, we will always go back to our home-town to celebrate. We will prepare a lot of delicious food for this festival and families will gather around for a reunion dinner.

Besides that, most of us get red packets from our elderly and parents. It is a sign of blessing for the elderly to give the young ones red packets. People who are married also give red packets. We also celebrate Chinese New Year by playing firecrackers. This tradition comes from an ancient myth. It said that the sound of firecrackers scared away a creature called "Nian". This myth is also the reason why people wear red clothing during this festival because it is said that the creature mentioned is afraid of the colour, red.

Chinese New Year is a festival that I personally enjoy and it has a lot of meanings. This festival brings families together and strengthen the bonds. It brings joy to people and other races also can enjoy this festival.
